Kunal Khattar, Founding Partner at AdvantEdge Founders, has authored a new piece for IVCA's #TheContext on how India's growing market for pre-owned electric cars could help millions of two-wheeler owners make the transition to four-wheeler ownership.
India has more than 250 million two-wheelers on the road, but the upfront and running costs of a car remain a major barrier for many households. Kunal argues that used EVs could change that equation: models priced at ₹10–15 lakh when new can become available for ₹4–6 lakh in the secondary market, while home charging can bring running costs down to roughly ₹1–1.5 per kilometre — even below those of a petrol two-wheeler.
The piece also examines the broader total-cost-of-ownership advantage, the role of transferable battery warranties in reducing second-owner risk, and how a more mature pre-owned EV market could turn electric cars into an attainable upgrade for India's large two-wheeler-owning population.
