The EV Journey Through Rural Lens

Recent reports indicate that Tier II cities in India are emerging as critical markets for electric two-wheelers. In FY 2023, Tier II and III cities accounted for 49% of electric four-wheeler registrations, which increased to 58% in FY 2024. In Tier II and Tier III, customers highlighted lack of charging infrastructure as one major challenge.

Increasing electric vehicle (EV) penetration in India, particularly in Tier II and Tier III cities, reflects a significant shift in the country’s mobility landscape. As urban centers witness faster adoption of electric two-wheelers, there is an urgent need to develop affordable, rural-focused EV solutions to drive adoption beyond major cities.

This article explores the current state of EV adoption in these smaller cities in India, along with the challenges faced, and potential strategies for enhancing accessibility and affordability.
